FRONT-5
FRONT-5: meaning and examples
Hello everyone.
Today we finish our look at expressions with the English word front.
Today's expression is: on the front burner
Meaning: when an issue, plan, etc. is given lots of attention because it is considered important.
Example 1:
Many people talk about the importance of learning English, but they are unwilling to put it on the front burner and make it a priority.
This expression is especially popular in US English. On April 27th, 2009, we looked at the expression on the back burner. These expressions are metaphors from cooking. The things that we have to watch carefully should be on the front burner and vice-versa.
Example 2:
Due to the crisis, many companies have put expansion plans on the back burner. However, I think a crisis is a great time for expansion.
