FRONT-4: meaning and examples

Good morning everyone. I hope you had a nice weekend.

Today we continue our look at expressions with the English word front.

Today's expression is: up front (informal)

Meaning: as payment in advance.

Example 1:
We'll pay you fifty percent up front and the rest when you've finished the job. 

It can also be used as a verb.

Example 2:
He fronted me almost seventy percent of the cost of the house. He'll pay the rest when we give him the keys.
