WASTE TIME: meaning and examples

Good morning.

Today's expression is: to waste time

Meaning: to not make good use of your time. To not use your time in a productive way.

Example 1:
Meetings can be a complete waste of time, unless they are well organised and the participants follow the agenda closely.

Example 2:
David! Don't waste so much time. Just finish your homework, or you won't be able to watch the Barça-Madrid match.

Notice that we don't translate perder el tiempo as 'lose time', but rather waste time.

Example 3:
Most people waste a lot of time watching television, when they could read, study English or learn something new.
