URGE: meaning and examples

Today's word is: to urge

Meaning: to advise or try hard to persuade someone to do something; to recommend something strongly.

Example 1:
I urged her to stay with us until the storm was over.

Example 2:
The situation in Japan is dangerous, so the United Nations is urging caution.

Urge can also be used as a noun to mean a strong desire to do something.

Example 3:
She had a sudden urge to eat chocolate.
