TO FALL-8 (REVISION): meaning and examples

Hello.

Today we finish our review of useful English expressions that use the word fall (caer).

Today's expression is: to fall back on

Meaning: to go to someone for support; to have something to use when you have difficulties.

Example 1:
She has always fallen back on her boyfriend when she has problems. I don't know what she is going to do now that they have separated.  

Example 2:
Everyone should have money in the bank to fall back on in times of crisis. Most experts agree that you should have enough savings to cover six months of expenses.

Example 3:
He didn't go to the party last night. He never goes out; he always falls back on the excuse that he doesn't have enough time.
