TO FALL-2: meaning and examples
Last Friday we began a series of Daily Vitamins that will look at uses of the verb to fall. So far we've looked at the expressions to fall in love and to fall for something. Today we will look at a more common use, which does not form an expression or a phrasal verb.
Today's meaning is: to reduce the amount, level or value of something.
Example 1
Last year the stock market fell a lot, but this year it's beginning to rise.
Example 2
Inflation fell last month to 2.2 percent.
Example 3
The temperature has been falling all day.
