TO BRING UP-1: meaning and examples

Today's expression is: to bring somone up

Meaning: to care for a child; to raise a child

Example 1:
After my mother was divorced, she managed to bring up five children on her own.

Example 2:
Obama was brought up by his grandmother.

This phrasal verb can also have the meaning of "teaching children" (= educar).

Example 3:
They were brought up to respect adults and to respect authority in general.
