TIME TO SHAKE OFF THE WINTER BLUES: meaning and examples
Happy Wednesday, everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin! I hope you are having a great day.
Today we look at two more phrases or expressions related to spring, which starts tomorrow, in the northern hemisphere.
Today's 1st spring phrase is: Time to shake off the winter blues.
Meaning/Use: This phrase suggests that spring’s arrival can lift spirits and bring joy after the gloom of winter.
Example 1:
Rick: Finally, we're starting to see some sunny days.
Donna: Yes. I think it's time to shake off the winter blues.
Today's 2nd spring phrase is: Spring into action
Meaning/Use: This is a motivational phrase that encourages someone to start doing something energetically. NOTE: this "spring" is not referring to the season of spring, but rather the verb to spring, which means "to move or jump suddenly or rapidly upwards or forwards."
Example 2:
Lisa: Henry, do you know when you are going to have the marketing plan done?
Henry: No worries. Right now, I'm going to spring into action. I will have it for you by the end of the day.
👉 Now it's time for you to spring into action. I encourage you to write a sentence or dialogue with one, or both, of these phrases. You can post your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Bluesky) and we will give you feedback about your writing as soon as possible.
