THE BALL IS IN YOUR COURT: meaning and examples

Good morning / afternoon / evening everyone, depending on when you are reading this lesson. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you're having a great day!

Today we look at another common idiomatic expression. As I always say, learning idiomatic expressions and, especially, using these expressions can make your English more interesting.

Today's expression is: the ball is in your court

Meaning: this expression means that it is up to you to make the next decision or to take the next action.

Example 1: I’ve given you all the information; now the ball is in your court.

Example 2: She has finished all of her tasks. Now the ball is in our court. We have to finish this report by Friday!

👉 Now it's your turn to practice. You can write your own sentence with today's expression on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Bluesky) and we will give you feedback as soon as possible.

I hope the rest of your day goes well.

All the best!
