SUNTAN: meaning and examples

Good morning again everyone!

It seems that summer has definitely arrived, just a few days before it officially begins! To celebrate the arrival of warm, sunny weather, we have a couple of summer conditions to explain.

Today's word is: (TO GET) A SUNTAN; TO TAN

It means: to be exposed to the sun until your skin turns a darker, brown colour.

Example 1:
She goes to the beach for a couple of hours every morning from the beginning of June because she wants to get a suntan.

Example 2:
I don't tan very well. Whenever I spend too much time in the sun, my skin goes bright red, not brown.

Hmmm, it sounds like the person in Example 2 is suffering from a condition that we'll explain tomorrow.

Have a nice day!
