SHORT EXPRESSIONS-1: meaning and examples

Good morning.

Today we continue looking at meanings of and expressions with the word short.

Today's expression is: in the short run

Meaning: For a short time in the immediate future. 

Example 1:
Although gasoline prices may rise in the short run, they will probably begin to decrease by the end of the year.

This phrase is the opposite of in the long run.

Example 2:
Buying a fuel-efficient car will cost you quite a bit of money now, but in the long run it may actually save you money since you will use less petrol.
