ROOKIE: meaning and examples

Good morning.

Today we look at another word that came up in the Ziggurat Breakfast Club last Saturday.

Today's word is: Rookie

Meaning: a person who has just started a new job or other activity and has very little experience. This word is more common in US English and is often used to describe members of sports teams who are in their first year.

Example 1:
In the 2001-2002 basketball season, Pau Gasol became the first non-American to be named Rookie of the year of the NBA.

Example 2:
Just because I'm a rookie, doesn't mean I won't be able to solve the world's economic problems, said Barack.
