MESS-1: meaning and examples

Good morning. I hope all of you had a nice weekend.

In March of 2005, we did a Daily Vitamin about the adjective messy, which means "when things are in the wrong place or not organized properly or not arranged in a nice way". This week we are going to look at expressions with the word MESS.

Today's expression is: to mess around with something

Meaning 1: to touch or use something in a careless or annoying way.

Example 1:
Janet. Who's been messing around with my mobile? The configuration is completely changed.

Meaning 2: to spend time playing with something, repairing something, etc.

Example 2:
Pat. I think you should stop messing around with that computer. Maybe you should just bring it to a computer technician and avoid wasting more time. We have more important things to do.

I hope everyone has a good day.
