KEEP SOMEONE ON THEIR TOES: meaning and examples

Good morning.

Today we are going to look at an expression that our office manager, Judit Martos, suggested some months ago.

Today's expression is: To keep someone on their toes

Meaning: to make sure that somebody is ready to deal with anything that might happen by doing things to them that they are not expecting.

Example 1:
We make fairly regular surprise visits to our different shops to keep the staff on their toes.

Example 2:
My boss gave me a couple of extra things to do, just to keep me on my toes.
