HOSPITALITY: meaning and examples

Good morning everyone. I hope you had a good weekend.

This week we are going to review some words and expressions that came up in the Ziggurat Breakfast Club that was held last Saturday, October 6th, in Barcelona.

Today's word is: Hospitality (noun)

Meaning 1: friendly and generous behaviour towards guests.

Example 1:
Thank you for your kind hospitality. We really had a great time at the party. Thanks for inviting us.

Meaning 2: food, drink or services that are provided by an organisation (such as a hotel) for guests, customers, etc.

Example 2:
These days it is very important to be able to speak English if you work in the hospitality industry in Spain. That is why Ziggurat receives quite a few calls from hotels inquiring about our language-teaching services.

This second meaning is the meaning that came up in the Breakfast Club, and is the translation of hostelería. We can also translate the Spanish word hostelería as the hotel and catering business.
