HALF-5: meaning and examples

Good morning.

Today's expression is: (at) half mast

Meaning: when a flag is flown at half mast, it is flown in the middle of the mast (mástil) as a sign of respect for a person who has just died.

Example 1:
After the tragic accident that killed the secondary-school teacher, all the flags in the school district were flown at half mast.

Example 2
The flags were flown at half mast on the day of his funeral.
