GOTCHA!

Hello everyone. Happy Thursday! Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you are having a great day. 

Today we continue our look at phases related to jokes and pranks, to celebrate April Fools' Day, which was on Tuesday. 

Today's 1st phrase is: Gotcha! 

Meaning / Use: Gotcha is an informal contraction of "got you" in English. It can have different meanings depending on the context. When you say "Gotcha!" in a prank, it means you've successfully tricked or fooled someone, and in some way you are celebrating that moment.

Dialogue 1:
David (Team Leader): Hey Sarah, the CEO just emailed me saying he wants you to present the quarterly report... in ten minutes.
Sarah: What?! I haven’t even prepared! Oh no, oh no…
David: Relax! Gotcha! The meeting isn't until next week.
Sarah: Ugh, yes...you got me! That was mean… but also funny.

Today's 2nd phrase is: You've been had! 

Meaning / Use: This phrase means that someone has tricked, deceived, or fooled you. It often implies that you fell for a prank or misleading information.

Dialogue 2:
Michael (Manager): Hey, Laura, did you hear about the "urgent" email from the IT department? They said we all need to reset our passwords immediately.
Laura (Employee): Yeah, I already clicked the link and changed mine. Why?
Michael: Oh no… that email was a phishing scam. IT just sent a warning about it.
Laura: Wait… what?! Oh no! That means—
Michael: Yep… you've been had. You should report it to IT right away.
