GET-3: meaning and examples
Good morning.
Hoy continuamos con nuestro repaso de los usos del verbo GET. Hoy estudiamos el uso informal, pero muy común, de GET para decir "entender a alguien o algo" (to understand someone or something).
Mira los siguientes ejemplos.
Example 1:
Everyone laughed at the joke, but Olga didn't seem to get it.
(Todos se rieron del chiste, pero por lo visto Olga no lo captó.)
En otras palabras, como Olga no entendió el chiste, no se rió.
Example 2:
Bruce entra en la sala donde Jill está mirando una película.
Bruce: I don't get it. What's happening? (No lo entiendo. ¿Qué está pasando?)
Jill: She has decided to stay with her ex-husband. (Ha decidido quedarse con su ex-marido.)
Bruce: Oh...I get it now. (Ah...ahora lo entiendo.)
En un lenguaje más informal, también podría traducirse como "ahora lo cojo" o "ahora lo pillo".
