EXPRESSIONS WITH YEAR-1: meaning and examples

Good morning.

Since we have just begun a new year, I thought it would be appropriate to look at some common English expressions that use the word year.

Today's expression is: year after year

Meaning: every year for many years; repeatedly for many years.

Example 1:
The band grew tired of performing the same type of music year after year, so they decided to split up.

Sometime we repeat the expression to add more emphasis of a lot of time passing.

Example 2:
Jack hates his job, but he continues working in the company year after year after year after year. I think he should look for a new job.

We can also use other time expressions (day after day, week after week, month after month).

If you have any questions about these expressions, remember to use the Daily Vitamin Plus! forum section, which you can access (with your login and password) from our website (www.ziggurat.es).

Enjoy the rest of your day.
