BODY EXPRESSIONS WITH HAND (1): meaning and examples

Good morning. I hope you enjoyed your long weekend!

One of the first words you learn in English is hand (mano), when you learn the parts of the human body. However, there are dozens of very interesting expressions used with this word that many English students aren't aware of, and which we use a lot. Therefore, over the next few days, we will look at some of these expressions and their uses.

Today's Expression is: to give somebody a hand

It means: to help someone

Example 1
Rachel. This box is very heavy. Can you give me a hand?

Example 2
Do you need a hand with the party? I can help you prepare the food.

Example 3
Mark said he would lend me a hand with the report, but he hasn't done anything.

Examples (2) and (3) are variations of the same expression.
