AWESOME: meaning and examples

Good morning.

Today we look at a word that came up in the last Ziggurat Breakfast Club. (By the way, remember that there is a Breakfast Club Activity tomorrow morning, Saturday February 23rd, at 10:30 in Barcelona. If you want to come, please confirm by 14:00.)

Today's word is: Awesome

Meaning: Very impressive or very difficult or frightening.

In many dialects of US English, this word is also used colloquially to mean very good or very enjoyable. It would be like saying ¡impresionante! or ¡brutal! in an informal context in Spanish, to describe something that you really like.

Example 1
From the top of the mountain, the valley was an awesome sight.

Example 2 (informal US):
Hey, dudes! I just saw an awesome movie. The special effects in it were totally awesome. I think I'm going to see it again. Do you wanna come with me? We could all go together; that would be totally awesome.
