ANIMAL EXPRESSIONS: CAT: meaning and examples

Good morning.

Today we will look at some more colourful animal expressions, this time with cat.

Today's 1st expression is: to let the cat out of the bag

It means: to tell someone something that was intended to be secret; to tell a secret by mistake.

Example 1
I wanted the party to be a surprise, but my son let the cat out of the bag

Today's 2nd expression is: to look like something that the cat brought in

It means: to have a dirty or untidy appearance.

Example 2:
When my son comes home from his football matches, he looks like something that the cat brought in

Today's 3rd expression islike the cat that got the cream 

It's means: to be pleased with yourself because of something you have achieved. This can sometimes bother or annoy others who are jealous of your achievements.

Example 3:
Ever since Susan got that new client, she's been smiling like the cat that got the cream.
