PULL EXPRESSIONS-2: meaning and examples

Good morning.

Yesterday we answered a question from Marta about the expression to pull the wool over somone's eyes. It turns out that there dozens of interesting expressions in English that use the verb pull, so we are going to look at some of them during the rest of the week.

Today's expression is: to pull a fast one

Meaning: to trick someone.

Notice that the meaning is very similar to yesterday's expression. There is also the popular expression to pull somebody's leg, which has a similar meaning as well (to play a joke on someone, usually by making them believe something that is not true).

Example 1:
He sold me a "special" bottle of wine for 85 euros. When I arrived home and tried it, I realised that it was just cheap bulk wine. He really pulled a fast one on me; however, tomorrow I'll return to the shop and complain.

Example 2:
When I told you that I had won the lottery, I was only pulling your leg. I didn't even buy a lottery ticket.
