TO SHOP AROUND: meaning and examples

Hello everyone. I hope you are having a great day. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin.

Today I want to give you an expression related to shopping. You may like to shop, or you may not. But this expression can be useful.

Today's expression is: TO SHOP AROUND

Meaning: to compare the price and/or quality of the same (or similar) product in different shops before you decide which one to buy.

Example 1:
Mary: Haven't you bought your new car yet? It's been 3 months since you had the accident and you decided to buy a new car. What are you waiting for?
Jack: I've been shopping around. I think I'm going to buy the Volvo. It's a bit more expensive, but I really love it and I know it will last a long time.

Example 2
When my wife and I decided to buy a flat, we shopped around intensively for about 2 or 3 weeks. We saw dozens of flats in different neighbourhoods in Barcelona and found a flat that we really loved. The key was shopping around and getting familiar with the market at that time.
