TO LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE: meaning and examples

Good morning. This week we are going to explain some different expressions which use the word side. Yesterday we looked at the expression to be a thorn in somebody's side. Today's expression is: to look on the bright side It means: to consider the positive aspects of a situation. Example 1: I know that you're upset because you didn't get the job, but try to look on the bright side. If you had been offered the job, you would have had to move to another city. Example 2: When Janet told me that she had broken up with her boyfriend, I told her to look on the bright side. She wasn't really happy when they were together anyway. The British comedy troupe Monty Python sang a song Always look on the bright side of life, which is good advice if you're feeling unhappy or pessimistic.
