TO CHOKE: meaning and examples

Good morning.

A couple of days ago one of our Daily Vitamin users, Sebastián, asked what the word choking meant. He saw it in the following text:

His death, the circumstances of which are still a matter of debate,
is thought to have been caused either by his choking on a piece of meat,
or by a heart attack

Today's expression is: to choke on something

It means: to be unable to breathe because the passage to your lungs is blocked or you cannot get enough air.

Example 1:
You must be careful with small toys; they can choke a baby.

Example 2:
He was choking on a piece of fish.

Thanks for the question Sebastián.
