SUMMER CLASSICS-1: meaning and examples

Good morning,

For this last week of Daily Vitamins before summer, we are going to post links to some classic summer songs, like we did last year.

As usual, it was hard to choose because there are so many great summer songs, but hopefully these ones will help get you in the mood for your holidays. Let's start with this very popular 1963 song from the California band, The Beach Boys. The lyrics were written by Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, but they are set to the music of "Sweet Little Sixteen," written by Chuck Berry.

"Surfin USA" by THE BEACH BOYS

You can watch the video of the song at the following YouTube link (with the lyrics), and you have the lyrics below.

If everybody had an ocean
Across the U.S.A.
Then everybody'd be surfin'
Like California
You'd seem 'em wearing their baggies
Huarachi sandals too
A bushy bushy blond hairdo
Surfin' U.S.A.

You'd catch 'em surfin' at Del Mar
Ventura County line
Santa Cruz and Trestle
Australia's Narabine
All over Manhattan
And down Doheny Way

Everybody's gone surfin'
Surfin' U.S.A.

We'll all be planning out a route
We're gonna take real soon
We're waxing down our surfboards
We can't wait for June
We'll all be gone for the summer
We're on surfari to stay
Tell the teacher we're surfin'
Surfin' U.S.A.

Haggerty's and Swami's
Pacific Palisades
San Onofre and Sunset
Redondo Beach L.A.
All over La Jolla
At Waimea Bay

Everybody's gone surfin'
Surfin' U.S.A.

Everybody's gone surfin'
Surfin' U.S.A.

Everybody's gone surfin'
Surfin' U.S.A.
