STRANGER vs. FOREIGNER: meaning and examples

Good morning. I hope you had a nice weekend.

Today we look at the difference between stranger and foreigner in English.

Meaning of Stranger: a person that you do not know.

Meaning of Foreigner: a person that was born in, or that comes from, a foreign country.

Example 1:
My mother always told me not to talk to strangers. She said that if a stranger approached me that I should tell an adult that I knew!

Example 2:
Laney can get very nervous when she has to give a presentation to a room full of strangers, so she always tries to find a friendly face in the audience.

Example 3:
The local education authority offers free language classes to foreigners.

Example 4:
There weren't any foreigners living in my village when I first moved there, so people were very interested in who I was and where I'd come from.
