STOP: KNOCK IT OFF!: meaning and examples

Good morning.

In spoken English, there are different informal expressions that we use to tell people to stop, depending on the context.

Today's expression is: knock it off! (spoken/informal)

It is used: to tell somebody to stop making noise or to stop doing something that is annoying you.

Example 1:
Knock it off! I'm trying to sleep.

Example 2:
They were talking and making noise during the film, so I told them to knock it off.

Tomorrow we will look at a couple of more informal spoken expressions that we use to ask a person to stop doing something that is bothering us.
