SPREAD THE NEWS / WORD

This week we are going to look at some common English expressions that use the word spread in them.  

Today's expression is: to spread the news / to spread the word

It means: to tell a lot of other people about something.   

Example 1: 
Ziggurat English Services is trying to spread the news about the online course that they offer: My Oxford English.

Example 2:
We need to find a new CEO; we're going to put an advert in the newspaper, but please start spreading the word right away.
