MONEY LAUNDERING: meaning and examples

Good morning,

Today we look at another type of corruption.

Today's expression is: money laundering (noun); to launder money (verb)

It means: to move money that has been earned illegally from one business to another with the objective of making the money legal. The word laundering means washing.

Example 1:
The mafia has a network of businesses that they use for laundering money obtained from drug dealing.

Example 2:
Dave: I don't understand why that restaurant is always empty.
Mark: If you ask me, I think they use it for money laundering. It's not a real business. How else could they stay open with no clients for so long?

Enjoy your day!
