MANAGE-2 (REVISION): meaning and examples

Good morning.

Yesterday we looked at the verb to manage (as well as some related nouns) with respect to the organization and control of work in a company or business. Today we will look at a different meaning of the verb to manage.

Today's expression is: to manage (something)

It means: to successfully deal with (resolve) a difficult situation, problem or emotion; to cope.

Example 1:
I offered to help Betty organize the Christmas party but she insisted that she could manage alone.

Example 2:
Kenneth manages difficult or demanding clients very well because he's very patient.

Example 3:
I can't manage without my mobile phone. I use it a lot!

Example 4:
How are you able to manage with a full-time job and two small children? It seems impossible to me!
