HOLD-2 (EWV)

Hoy seguimos con nuestro repaso de expresiones con HOLD.

Today's hold expression is: to hold off
(La expresión con hold de hoy es: aguantarse)

Meaning 1: to not start (if said of rain or a storm).
(Significado 1: no empezar; aguantar (cuando se habla del tiempo))

Example 1:
The rain held off just long enough for the tennis match to finish.
(El buen tiempo aguantó justo lo suficiente para poder terminar el partido de tenis.)

Meaning 2: to not do something immediately.
(Significado 2: no hacer algo inmediatamente; aplazar.)

Example 2:
They were thinking of buying a new flat right away, but now they have decided to hold off until the prices drop even more.
(Estaban pensando en comprar un nuevo piso inmediatamente, pero ahora han decidido aplazarlo hasta que los precios bajen incluso más.)
