FRONT-1: meaning and examples

Hello everyone.

Over the next few days we are going to look at some expressions with the English word front. Front can be a noun, adjective or a verb, and combines with other words to create different useful expressions. Over the years we have looked at lots of expressions with the word back, so I thought we should also include expressions with front, the opposite of back. :-)

Today's expression is: in front (adverb)

Meaning 1: in a position that is further forward than someone or something, but not very far away.

Example 1:
I live in the house with the big garden in front.

Meaning 2: In front can also mean to be in first place in a race or another type of competition.

Example 2:
The Spanish team is currently in front, with a lead of ten points.
