EYE EXPRESSIONS-1: meaning and examples

Good morning everyone. I hope you had a nice weekend.

Over the next several days we are going to look at some interesting English expressions that use the word eye in them. On September 23, 2005 we looked at the expression to see eye to eye and on November 23, 2009 we studied the expression to pull the wool over someone's eyes. You may want to go back and look at those Daily Vitamins too.

Today's expression is: with your eyes shut / closed

Meaning: when you have so much experience that you can do something very easily.

Example 1:
I've driven to the coast so often that I could do it with my eyes shut.

Example 2:
You want to challenge me to a game of one-on-one basketball? Okay...no problem. I could beat you with my eyes closed.

Have a great day!
