EXPRESSIONS WITH SALT-1: meaning and examples

Good morning everyone.

Back in March of 2005 we did a Daily Vitamin about the expression to rub salt into the wound (to make a difficult situation even worse for someone). You can review that Daily Vitamin here:

https://www.ziggurat.es/es/lecciones_ingles/index.asp?id=324

This week we are going to look at more expressions with the word SALT.

Today's expression is: to salt something away

It means: to save something for the future secretly, sometimes dishonestly.

Example 1:
The CEO salted away all the company's profits in foreign bank accounts.

Example 2:
Every month I try to salt some money away for my retirement, but it's not easy.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.
