EXPRESSIONS WITH PINCH-1
EXPRESSIONS WITH PINCH-1: meaning and examples
Last Tuesday we looked at the expression "to take something with a pinch of salt" and this week we are going to look at expressions with the word PINCH.
Today's expression is: at a pinch (in a pinch in US)
It means: if necessary; used to say that something could be done or used in a particular situation if it is really necessary.
Example 1:
We have a lot of guests tonight, but at a pinch we can get six people round this table.
Example 2:
The back seat of my Mini will accommodate three adults in a pinch; but hopefully Mary will bring her van.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.
