BREAK-3: meaning and examples

Good morning everyone.

Today we continue our look at different uses of and expressions with the English word break.

Today's expression with break is: break through

Meaning 1: to make new and important discoveries.

Example 1:
Scientists think that they are beginning to break through in the fight against cancer.

The noun related to this verb is breakthrough. A breakthrough is an important development that may lead to an agreement or achievement.

Example 2
The research team was responsible for a major breakthrough in cancer research.

Example 3
She made a significant breakthrough in her personal development with the help of an executive coach
