BECAUSE vs. BECAUSE OF: meaning and examples
Today we look at the difference between BECAUSE and BECAUSE OF. Both have the same meaning, but their sentence structures are different.
Meaning of BECAUSE: to give a reason for something. It is followed by a clause (subject verb).
Meaning of BECAUSE OF: to give a reason for something. OF is followed by a gerund or a noun.
Example 1:
I had to sit down and rest because I have arthritis. ( clause)
I had to sit down and rest because of my arthritis. ( noun)
Example 2:
He became deaf because he was always listening to loud music with earphones. ( clause)
He became deaf because of listening to loud music with earphones. ( gerund)
Example 3:
You're going to get into trouble because you have a bad attitude! ( clause)
You're going to get into trouble because of your bad attitude! ( noun)
