ABOVE AND BEYOND

Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin and welcome to the new 2022-2023 academic year.

This month we are beginning the 20th academic year of the Daily Vitamin lessons (and the 20th academic year of Ziggurat Corporate Language School). 

I hope all of you had a nice summer break, and I also hope you are having a good day so far. Are you ready for another year of Daily Vitamin lessons? 

This year we are going to review quite a few Daily Vitamins that we have sent over the years. Repetition is one of the most important elements of learning, so I feel okay about repeating lessons. :-) And it's a good way to celebrate our 20th anniversary year. 

We are going to start off the academic year with a lesson we did back in 2003.

Today's expression is: above and beyond

It means: more than

Example 1: The support given to us by the police was above and beyond what we expected.

Example 2: The number of hours that she puts into her job is above and beyond the call of duty. (That is, more than is expected of her.)
