ABBREVIATIONS-3: meaning and examples

Good morning again.

Today we continue our review of some common abbreviations in English.

Today's first abbreviation is: BLT

It stands for: Bacon, lettuce and tomato

This is a type of sandwich that includes these ingredients.

Example 1:
Waiter: What can I get for you?
Customer: I'll have the BLT on rye bread and a beer please.

Today's second abbreviation is: Xmas

It stands for: Christmas

We use this abbreviation in writing only.

Example 2 (a note):
John,
I have gone to the grocery store. Can you please pick up some Xmas cards on the way home from work today? I want to send them out early this year.
