8-FIGURE OF EIGHT: meaning and examples
Good morning.
Today we begin the countdown (cuenta atrás) to our 1000th (one thousandth) Daily Vitamin. Each day, we will go over an expression based on the number of days left before we send the thousandth Daily Vitamin (next Wednesday, October 15th).
Today's expression: Figure of eight (US English --> Figure eight)
Meaning: a pattern or movement that looks like the shape of the number 8.
Example 1:
The ice skater made a figure-of-eight manoeuvre on the ice during her almost perfect routine; she won the gold medal.
Example 2:
Most mountain climbers know how to tie a figure of eight knot; they are very common.
