EXPRESSIONS WITH LARGE-4: meaning and examples

Good morning again everyone. 

Today we look at one final expression with the word LARGE.

Today's expression is: At large

This expression has two meanings; one that can be a synonym of yesterday's expression, by and large, and another new meaning.

Meaning 1 (synonym of by and large): when used after a noun, as a whole; in general.

Example 1:
The opinion of the public at large is that most politicians are corrupt.

Meaning 2: not captured; free (when referring to a dangerous person or animal).

Example 2:
She will not be satisfied as long as her husband's killer is still at large.
