THEME THURSDAY: OSCAR VOCABULARY (NOD)

Hello and good morning, everyone!

For February's Theme Thursday, we are looking at Oscar-related vocabulary. We are ending this month's theme with the word NOD.

Definition: an Oscar nomination.

Example 1: He got an Oscar nod for his role as a drug addict who changes his life. 

Example 2: They think she will get an Oscar nod for her latest movie. 

Example 3: He has been working in Hollywood for 20 years and has never had an Oscar nod

Example 2: My mother's jewellery goes to my sister and I when she passes. 

Example 3: The award for Best Costume goes to my dog. We dressed her up as a unicorn.

WORDY WEDNESDAY: ADAPTATION (FILM)

LISTEN TO THE DAILY VITAMIN HERE:

Hi, everyone! In honour of the month of the Oscars, we are looking at a word associated with film-making: ADAPTATION.

Definition: a movie, television drama, or stage play that has been adapted from a written work, typically a novel.

Example 1: Some people say that the film adaptation is never as good as the book. 

Example 2: I loved the film "Life of Pi." It was a great adaptation of the novel. 

Example 3: I think we need more film adaptations of Stephen King novels.

THEME THURSDAY: OSCAR VOCABULARY (BALL GOWN)

Hello, everyone! Welcome to February's Theme Thursday.

This is the month of the Oscars, so we are celebrating by looking at Oscar-related vocabulary. We begin with the word BALL GOWN.

Definition: a formal dress.

Example 1: He wore a suit and she wore a lace ball gown.

Example 2: I want to go to the opera, but I have to buy a ball gown. They're so expensive!

A BALL is a festive party, and GOWN is another word for a long dress.
