SYNONYMS FOR 'INTERESTING': 'MESMERIZING'

LISTEN TO THE DAILY VITAMIN HERE:

Hello, everyone! Happy Wednesday to you.

It's day three of Synonyms for "Interesting."

Today's word is: MESMERIZING.

Definition: holding the attention of someone; transfixing someone.

As you can see, its definition is very similar to the definitions of our words from Monday and Tuesday.

Example 1: The audience was silent: the magician was mesmerizing

Example 2: The actor is described as talented and mesmerizing in this new movie.

Example 3: We watched a spider catch a fly: it was mesmerizing to my son!

Do those examples look familiar? They are the same examples from yesterday, but with the word MESMERIZING instead of yesterday's word, CAPTIVATING. This shows you exactly how close the two are in meaning!

We can also use the examples from Monday's lesson:

Example 4: The baby stared at the lights of the new toy: they were mesmerizing

Example 5: The dancer was mesmerizing: she was so beautiful!

Example 6: I’m so afraid of bees. To me, they’re mesmerizing.

One of sentences 4, 5 or 6 is not correct; it uses mesmerizing incorrectly. Which one is it? Tell us on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter).
