DRIVING VOCABULARY (FENDER BENDER)

Welcome back, everyone!

Are you ready to continue with our lessons about Vocabulary related to Driving?

Today we are learning the term FENDER BENDER.

Definition: A minor car accident. (A fender is the piece that goes around the front and the back of the car; it’s typically what is damaged when a car hits another car from behind.)

Example 1: His mom was in an accident. It was nothing serious, thankfully: just a fender bender

Example 2: There was a lot of traffic today because of an accident. It was only a fender bender, but it caused a lot of delays. 

Example 3: I was late for work because I got in a fender bender

DRIVING VOCABULARY (BLIND SPOT)

LISTEN TO THE DAILY VITAMIN HERE:

Hello and happy Monday, everyone!

This week we are learning Vocabulary related to Driving. Our first term is: BLIND SPOT

Definition: The area behind the car or on the side of the car that is difficult for a driver to see. 

Example 1: That car was in my blind spot. I didn't see it at all.

Example 2: The accident occurred because the driver of the car was in the truck's blind spot

Example 3: The visibility is bad in this car. It has a large blind spot on the right side.

EXPRESSIONS WITH SPRING (SPRING A LEAK)

LISTEN TO THE DAILY VITAMIN HERE:

Welcome back and happy Friday, everyone!

It's our last day of Expressions with Spring and we are looking at the expression TO SPRING A LEAK

Definition: To begin leaking. 

Example 1: The dishwasher sprung a leak and now the floor is damaged. 

Example 2: What caused the faucet to spring a leak?

Example 3: It looks like the tank has sprung a leak. We need to repair it immediately.

EXPRESSIONS WITH SPRING (TO SPRING SOMEONE)

LISTEN TO THE DAILY VITAMIN HERE:

Happy Thursday, everyone! I hope you're having a nice week and enjoying our Expressions with Spring.

Today's Spring expression is: TO SPRING (SOMEONE).

Definition: To get someone out of jail. 

NOTE: This is a colloquial expression that we don't use a lot, but you might hear it in films. 

Example 1: My brother came down and sprung me; otherwise, I’d still be in jail.

Example 2: He asked the lawyer to spring him before his sentence was finished, based on his good behaviour.

Hopefully you never have to use this expression to talk about yourself. ;-)

EXPRESSIONS WITH SPRING (SPRING FOR)

LISTEN TO THE DAILY VITAMIN HERE:

Hello and welcome back, everyone!

It's our third day of Expressions with Spring. Today we are looking at the phrasal verb TO SPRING FOR (SOMETHING)

Definition: To buy something for another person; to buy something expensive. 

Example 1: I'll spring for coffee today. 

Example 2: Let's spring for the nicer bottle of wine. We don't go out that often.

Example 3: He thinks we should spring for first class seats on our flight to London. I don't think it's worth it for such a short flight.
