LEFTOVERS: meaning and examples

Good morning, If you haven't seen the Ziggurat Christmas card yet (with sound), please click on the following link: www.ziggurat.es/christmas ***************************************** Today's word is: leftovers (noun) It refers to: the food that remains after a meal; the food that you have not finished or eaten. Example 1 It is a tradition in Catalonia to make stuffed (relleno) cannelloni from the leftovers of the Christmas meal. This dish is prepared and eaten on the 26th of December. Example 2 My grandmother makes delicious soups from the leftovers of every meal. She never wastes anything! You can use the word leftover as an adjective (i.e. without the s at the end). Example 3: It's considered quite normal in the U.S. to take any leftover food with you from a restaurant meal. You would ask for a 'doggy bag' (the idea being that you are taking it home to your dog!). However, I've rarely seen this happen in Europe.
