It is used: to introduce a new subject of conversation. So can also be used as an adverb and a conjunction but our examples below focus on how to use so as a way to introduce a new idea or subject.

Example 1
Oscar: Hi Paul. I haven't seen you for a while. How are you?
Paul: I'm fine, thanks.
Oscar: So, are you still working at ABC Incorporated?
Paul: Yes. We've been very busy recently.

Example 2
Ingrid: So, where would you like to go for lunch?
Patty: What about that new Thai restaurant on Second Avenue?
