PRESENT PERFECT: DURATION FROM THE PAS: meaning and examples

Hi, everyone! Happy Friday.

Today is our last lesson about the Present Perfect; we are looking at using this tense for talking about the DURATION OF AN ACTIVITY FROM THE PAST UNTIL NOW

We use this to show that something started in the past and is continuing until now. If we indicate the amount of time the activity or situation has existed, we use the following prepositional clauses to clarify:

FOR period of time (e.g., two weeks, three days, four years, etc.)

SINCE point of time in the past (1996, yesterday, Saturday, etc.)

Example 1: I have been with this company for 2 years

Example 2: He has loved Mayte since he was a child

Example 3: They have had that car for almost 20 years.
