PAST PERFECT (COMPLETED ACTIONS IN THE PAST): meaning and examples

Happy Monday, everyone! I hope that you had a wonderful weekend. Are you ready for week two of the 2018 Daily Vitamins?

This week we are focusing on the Past Perfect. Remember that the Past Perfect has this form:

HAD (not / never) past participle

Each day, we will look at one specific use of this tense. Today we are looking at the Past Perfect for COMPLETED ACTIONS BEFORE A MOMENT IN THE PAST. In this use, the Past Perfect shows that something happened before another action in the past

Example 1: I had never cried during a movie until I saw the Disney movie "Up."

Example 2: Tim had not seen a dolphin before he went to Hawaii.

Example 3: I had seen the Pacific Ocean before my trip to California.

Example 4: We had already skied before that trip to Aspen.

That's all for today. Tomorrow, we will look at another use of this tense. Until then, have a great day!
